How to Import Demo Content

For your convenience, an export file of the Demo site is available to assist in the setup of your Balance theme. You’ll find more information about this in the Importing Demo Content tutorial.

How to Configure the Home Featured Areas

Balance comes with two extra widget areas that appear on the home page only.

On our demo site we have used a text widget in Home Featured Left, with a link to a specific page.

In the Home Featured Right widget area, we have used the eNews and Updates widget.

We also placed the same enews widget in the Primary Sidebar, and the theme is coded to not display this widget in this sidebar on the home page only. It is hidden using css.

How to Configure the Menu

In this theme, disable the Primary and Secondary Navigation under Genesis Settings -> Navigation.

Created a menu under Appearance -> Menus.

Note that drop-down menu items are created by placing those menu item indented over to the right.

Drag the Custom Menu widget to Header Right. Choose the menu you just created.

How to Configure the Portfolio

To set up the Portfolio page in Balance, create a new Page called Portfolio (or similar). In the meta box on the right side, choose the Portfolio Page template. Publish the page.

You will need to create posts for the portfolio, with images uploaded to each post. We assigned each post to a Portfolio category.

Under Appearance -> Widgets, the will be a Portfolio widget area. Drag the Genesis Featured Posts widget to this area. Here’s how we set our demo site up:

Using content column classes
