Expose Pro Theme

Thank you for using the Genesis Framework by StudioPress and selecting the Expose Pro theme. Following are the instructions for setting up your site to resemble the Expose Pro theme demo.

You may wish to have the Expose Pro theme demo open for reference while setting up your theme. The setup documentation for this theme has been broken down into the following sections:

Pre-Installation Setup


Make sure you have the following installed:

  • WordPress version 3.6+
  • Genesis Framework version 2.0+


Before you begin, you will need to install and activate the following plugins Of course, you may substitute your favorite plugin, but this is the one used in the Expose Pro theme demo:

Theme Installation

Once you have completed the pre-installation steps and you have the Genesis Framework installed, you may install the Minimum Pro theme. You will find theme installation instructions here.

How to Import Demo Content

For your convenience, an export file of the Demo site is available to assist in the setup of your Expose Pro theme. You’ll find more information about this in the Importing Demo Content tutorial.

How to Configure the Genesis Theme Settings

In your WordPress admin, navigate to Genesis > Theme Settings. Configure the Theme Settings as follows:

Color Style

  • Click on the Color Style Dropdown to select an alternative color scheme for your site.

Default Layout

  • Click a thumbnail to select the Default Layout. The Expose Pro theme uses the Full Width Content option. All other default Genesis page layouts are disabled.

Content Archives

  • For Content Archives, the default setting of “Display post content” is used by the demo.
  • Leave the “Limit content to __ characters” option blank or set to 0.
  • Leave “Include the Featured Image?” checkbox unchecked.
  • Using the drop down box, select “Previous / Next” for the “Post Navigation Technique.”

Be sure to click the “Save Settings” button to preserve your changes.

How to Set the Site Title and Description

The site title and description for your site can be set by navigating to Settings > General.

  1. By default, the image used in the header of the Expose Pro Theme will be the Gravatar image associated with the email address set in the WordPress General Settings. If not Gravatar image is set for this email address a place holder image will be displayed.
  2. The text entered in the Site Title field will display directly below the header image.
  3. The text entered in the Tagline field will display directly below the Site Title.
  4. Be sure to click the “Save Settings” button to preserve your changes.

How to Use a Custom Header Image

The Expose Pro theme is configured to display the Gravatar associated with the email address set in the General settings screen for your site. An alternative image can be used by uploading a Custom Header Image of your choice.

To upload your header image, navigate to Appearance > Header menu. Images of exactly 256 × 256 pixels will give the best results. Other sizes will be cropped in the upload process to create an image of the correct size. The uploaded image will be square but will display as a circle in the Header area of your site.

How to Configure the Navigation Menu

In the Expose Pro theme, the Primary Navigation menu area is displayed in a fixed location at the top of the screen.

In the demo the Home page is the menu item place in the center location and displays in a contrasting color. The active menu item will display in Bold text.

The Primary navigation area can be set by navigating to Appearance > Menus > Manage Locations. Set both Primary navigation to the menu of your choice in the drop down for the Primary Navigation Menu location.

The Secondary Navigation Menu location is disabled in the Expose Pro Theme

Be sure to click the “Save Settings” button to preserve your changes.

How to Configure the Site Background Image

The Expose Pro theme demo includes a default, tileling background image that creates a textured appearance behind the content of the site. A different image can be used by uploading a custom image.

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Background.
  2. Use the “Choose Image” button to select the background image you wish to use.
  3. Once the image has been selected click the “Upload” button to load the image for use on your site.
  4. The Display Options settings for a tiling image should be set as follows: Position: Left, Repeat: Tile, Attachment: Scroll
  5. Click the “Save Changes” button to preserve your changes.

How to Configure the Home Page

Blog Post Display

The number of posts displayed can be changed by navigating to Settings > Reading in the WordPress admin panel and setting the “Blog pages show at most” option to the number of posts you would like to have display on the home page and archive pages.

Be sure to click the “Save Settings” button to preserve your changes.

How to Use Post Formats

The Expose Pro theme uses a feature of WordPress that allows posts to display differently based on the Post Format set for the post.

The following Post formats are availabe in the Expose Pro Theme:
